Horn Trio in Eb Major, op. 40

Brahms' mastery of the chamber music genre is indisputable. The rich harmonies and vibrant musical pictures he paints are a favorite with music lovers. His horn trio is a staple for CCM, utilizing the talents of founding members Gail Williams and Joseph Genualdi. Join us at the unique venue, SPACE, for a concert dedicated to the German master and celebrate Oktoberfest with a drink at intermission or afterwards with the musicians.

SUNDAY, APRIL 2ND, 2017

Mozart & Mendelssohn

7:30pm, Galvin Hall at Northwestern University

Mozart: Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K. 581

Mendelssohn: Octet in Eb Major, Op. 20

CSO principal clarinetist Stephen Williamson joins CCM for Mozart's effervescent quintet. Mozart was one of the first composers to write virtuosic music for the clarinet, a new instrument to the Classical period. Mendelssohn's famous Octet for strings rounds out the program in stylish fashion. The double string quartet brings a quasi-orchestral sound to this early romantic work.

Schubert's Variation for flute and piano are a charming centerpiece to this program. Beethoven & Dvorak

Beethoven's Sextet joins pairs of clarinets, bassoons and horns together for a work that combines the energy of a wind band and Beethoven's trademark beautiful melodies. The Eb Major string quintet of Dvorak adds an additional viola to the traditional string quartet for added warmth and depth of sound. Subtitled "American," the music was inspired by his time living and working in America.
